Debbie Squires, education official at the Michigan Elementary and Middle School Principals Association (MEMSPA) said this in regards to a new “school choice” package.
“Educators go through education for a reason. They are the people who know best about how to serve children. That’s not necessarily true of an individual resident. I’m not saying they don’t want the best for their children, but they may not know what actually is best from an education standpoint.
And someone on the committee responds:
“Wow. Parents don’t know what’s best for their child.”
To which Squires says:
“I said they may want what’s best for their child, they may not know.”
See and hear it for yourself:

On March 15, 2011, Colorado’s Douglas County School Board voted bravely and unaminously 7-0 to pass a school choice voucher program. They call it a resolution in support of its comprehensive Strategic Plan including a Blueprint for Choice and a Choice Pilot Scholarship Plan.
Basically, the school board voted to give itself competition and free up parents’ tax dollars to be used at a school of their own choosing. This school board understands education and freedom.
Now, according to the Denver Post, 3 groups are banding together to sue the Douglas County School Board: The national and state organizations of the American Civil Liberties Union and the Americans United for Separation of Church and State.
The ACLU’s legal director Mark Silverstein says:
“We all support the right of parents to send their children to private schools. The issue is they cannot do so with taxpayers’ money.”
To Whom do Tax Dollars and Children Belong?
Yet again, it never ceases to amaze the left’s denial that taxpayer money belongs to the taxpayer. In this case, the parents.
And it never ceases to amaze that the left denies that children belong to their parents… not the collective group of taxpayers.
Bravo to the Douglas County School Board – Freedom Heroes
It’s clear that the Douglas County school board understands to whom tax dollars and children belong. Bravo to them.
As my way of thanking, recognizing, and supporting these individuals for their stand for freedom, I’m adding the board to my “Freedom Heroes” tab.
If you believe parents have the inalienable right to provide the education of their choice to their own children using their own tax dollars, and if you want to financially support the Douglas County School Board against legal challenges, go here and donate today.
